LED Lights?

Just wondering if anyone has replaced rear bulbs with LEDs? If nuttin's broke, then I start lookin' fer things to break!

Seriously, I'm considering rear bubble lenses on my 71 with LEDs (all four). Actually have nice B/U lights that fit in the exhaust cuttouts (switched to Hookers and sidepipes, so the holes are open). I thought I'd splice into the harness where necessary. Think I would also need an LED-compatible flasher unit for the turn signals.

Anyone tried any of this?? I'd appreciate hearing about the trials and tribulations B4 I dig in.

And before I get the "why" question, "why not?" Not much else is stock or numbers matching anymore.

I haven't tried the LED lights myself, but others say they aren't nearly as bright.  What I use in my '69 is halogen 1157 and 1156 bulbs.  They are twice as bright, though more expensive, to be sure.  A halogen bulb puts out more heat, but the glass bulb is smaller and leaves more space between it and the lens.

I bought mine from JC Whitney several years back, but I've seen them available at Pep Boys and similar stores now.

If you need a new flasher, there are electronic flashers available that maintain a constant flash rate, regardless of the voltage.

The photo below show the sun reflection on the LED tail lights, they light up in the inside ring and reflect on the out side. The back up lights are a cool white light in the center.
