The headlights on my 77 Coupe will not pop up with the headlight switch (never have).  I have to use the over ride switch to get them to open.  They snap right up!!  I have replaced the complete vacuum line set.  Didn't help.  I'm thinking it must be the headlight switch.  Can anyone offer any tips??

Thanks,

Karmel77

Did this include the lines to/from the headlight switch?
If so, then the switch probably is bad.

If not, are you sure the car has the correct switch on it? It may have been replaced in the past with a "regular" switch that does not have the hook-ups for vaccuum, and the lines were just blocked off. Just an idea.

Removing the switch(if you haven't done it before), requires taking the dash panel loose, to get to the back, to disconnect. On my '74, its easier to take the (top) dash-pad off, and then the switch is right there.

I had the same exact problem with my 76,it was the headlight switch,I purchased a new one from ecklers, and the problem got worse

I couldn't operate the doors with either the overide or headlight switch, and heard air leaking from the new switch, I called ecklers and

they sent me a new switch which I replaced and had the same problem again, what is the chance of getting 2 new bad switches. For

now I bypassed the headlight switch, routing the vacuum line to the

override  switch and they the doors pop up again. I'll leave it like this

untill I resolve the defective switches from ecklers.

Thanks for the response!  I did replace the lines going to the switch.  Your right about gaining access to it, it's a bear!!  The dash pad removal sounds like the way to go!!

I get most of my parts from Ecklers, so the run of bad switches scares me a bit.

Sound like the switch is the way to go!!  Thanks again........Mel
