Does anyone have any idea if I can fit 5 1/2 in. round speakers in the kick panels for a 74 ? I'm trying to prevent taking anything apart and wasting my time. If I can fit them down by the right passenger foot & left foot for driver that would be great. I don't want to take the dash apart.
Thanks,

Do you already have speakers there?I replaced mine, but I don't recall what size they were.
5 1/2 should fit ok.

I didn't have to remove anything but the side panels.. (my vette is a 69)
I removed one of the speakers, took it in to a Car Stereo place, and had them give me my options..

worked fine

Flemgunner,
Mine didn't have speakers in the panels either. The panels are perforated so the sound can flow thru. The guy at Circuit City was great, he took an Infinity 4x6 placed in the spot behind the panel, then he put the panel back over it, Perfect fit !
I suggest that you check for rusted metal debris in the area where the speakes are installed. We found some behind mine and vacuumed the area. The stuff was getting all over the magnet.

Yeah I cleaned out the area, treated it for surface rust, and put some rust detering paint on it before installing some speakers.

I'm wondering if the 4X6 would also fit in my 68. Any thoughts? I'm thinking the hole should be the same, just not sure. |headscratch|

Dave,
I don't see why not ? If you go to a stereo shop I'm sure they'll tell you what fits. That's how I found out about mine.
