hi guys.
well looks like my corvettes at carlisle weekend has come to and end.
i went to get out of the car this afternoon and turned the key off and the car continued to run.  had to pull the coil wire to shut it off.
i can start it but the key will no longer turn it off.  it has always been suspect (the key/ignition has always been loose when i turn the car on or off).
so tell me, is this an easy fix? i'm guessing no.
any idea what parts i might need to replace (since  im at carlisle i'm sure i can find the right pieces)

thanks guys....

It sounds like a bad ignition switch.   The switch is located on the top side of the steering column just under the dash.   There is a rod from the key to the switch to operate the switch.

Take the two bolts loose under the dash supporting the column, and drop the column a bit.  It won't come down far, but it will be enough.    Unplug the switch and remove two screws to lift it off the column, and the rod.

Put the car in neutral if it is an automatic, and the switch in neutral, it may have a alignment pin to hold it in the neutral position.   Set the switch on the rod, install the screws, make sure the adjustment is right.   Operate the key to confirm.  Put the column back up and install the two bolts (could be nuts).

Not too bad of a job.

thanks ken!
i'll look for a  switch tomorrow.  i thought that since the key/steering lock assembly has always had a lot of play in it, that it might be that.
so, could it be that where the rod attaches to the switch is where the play is at?
