I put a new fuel pump on 81 last week, big hassle for a minor job but it seemed to go well enough. The car was (key word WAS) running great post fix. A few days a ago I drove the car to work and I even recall thinking on the way that the car was running better than ever.
Well, upon pulling into the drieway of my office the car shut off. (I could have sworn that I felt it sputter)
Assuming the worse, that I had some crap in a fuel line or the "new" rebuilt pump had failed after 60 miles of use. I grabbed the cell and called my good friends at Gieco to put the thing on a flatbed and take it home.
The next day I discovered after a few minutes that the pump was working, no spark.
The distibutor wire had broke.
No-sparky no-runny

Hey Adam,
Try a two part expoxy to glue the plastic back together. You can get it at any hardware store. I used it to glue my screw holes back together on my AC ducts and they are better than new.....Good luck..

Yes, it's how the resto industry keeps in business!
I'm new to the forum but not to Vettes or C3s. Looks like a great place to be.
Hi to all.
The interior was probably the easiest part on my car because it's what I do for a living. But....everything else was a true learning experience!!
The electrical things were the worst for me along with the rubber vacuum line routing "thing". Some of the smallest jobs can turn into the biggest nightmares.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you better.

Adam ,I had the same problem with my console,the window switch pushed down through the hole one day,so I took the console off and to my surprise,every one of the screw holes had been broken off and half a-- repaired.it just doesn't work I ordered a new ome from Mid-America ,just make sure you use the right screws or you'll have the same problem the only problem I have now is ,with one new piece the rest of the dash looks older.think I'll go to woodgrain.

Howdy everybody-No offense to any other person that knows that vettes are real cars, and all else is just transportation, but I think I can top you all with this story...
About a year ago, I wanted to fix a water leak that developed right above the drivers side visor, so off goes all the trim, and in goes the probing. Oh-sidebar- I was a G.M. tech. for over 5 years,,,OK- so I need to remove the solid metal chrome end that the t-top guide pin goes in...(guess where this is going yet?) and I'm taking out a front screw, when, I hear a very small "tink". Well that noise was a crack going from the spot where my screwdriver touched the windshield, all the way down to the dash pad. Oh well...$250.00 stupid mistake.
Then I needed to remove the fuel tank. And judging by all the frame rot I found, it turned into a frame-off project. And I figured, "while the body's off, I might as well restore it." Anybody have my twisted train of thought when it comes to vettes also? And now, a year later, I have a naked vette, off the frame, with a hundred baggies filled and marked with vette parts, and frame fixin stuff still all over the place.
Side note: I cracked the damn windshield again removing the body off the car.
So, let's review here....

Man ,makes you think that you never want to work on your vette,I was thinking about pulling the engine and tranny out of mine this winter while she's sitting,lets see broken bolts,broken hoses,dropping the engine on the car, broken wires ,slamming the transmission through the windshield,Sounds like fun to me!Oh well thats what owning a vette is all about,working on them,cleaning them,driving them,working on them ,working on them.Being on a first name basis with every vette parts supplier in the country,but the waves and the looks and the great feeling you get when your driving it,make it all worth it.Like I said in a post earlier,A VETTE IS LIKE A TIME MACHINE ,GET BEHIND THE WHEEL AND YOUR YOUNG AGAIN ,AND THAT CAN'T BE ALL BAD

You guys are lucky with your little stuff.
I had parked out front of the house, and had 2 Harley riders slide into the passenger side of my CE. $8,000 later it looked really nice.
Three months after that, at the drag strip, 2 teenagers rolled their car into the rear. And another $1,800...
At least it didn't cost me a dime....
