The rear interior of my 78 seems to be tacky to the touch, and regardless of how I clean it, the tacky feeling stays. Depending on what cleaner I use, there sometimes is a black residue on the cloth, but the tacky feeling still remains....
Also, a friend of mine's 77 white interior has pitted and has the same tacky feeling....
any ideas?
ride it...errr... drive it like you stole it!

Mine is the same way. No matter what I clean it with, the tackiness remains. I hope someone on here has some suggestions.

Put shag carpeting in it. Then it will really be tacky!
I think this has to do with a build-up of funky crap over the years, combined with the plastics/vinyls used way back then. Add to this the chemicals in the cleaners...can you say "melt-down"? This is exactly why I hate to leave the '74 out in the sun for very long. Like me, it is old, and "tacky".
I don't know how to solve the issue, other than replace all of the stuff, or live with it...

I thought that it twas supposed to be tacky. That way ya stuck to da seat at high speed...
Naw, Mine was like that and I used a leather cleaner on it (can't recall now which one) and then Armour All them up.
Course it didn't matter much cuse I covered them with Corvette cloth seat covers from Mid America. I got tiered of the black burning me each time I got in and then sweating on them as I drove down the road.

Try cleaning it with some rubbing alcohol (while drinking a beer, so you can get a little alcohol too). Then, go over it with Armour All.

Yeah, like Greypoupon69, I used alcohol, only I used dentured alcohol. Left lots of black color on the rag! I let that dry and I can't remember if the tackiness went away instantly or if it took a couple of days, but I also applied some leather/vinyl conditioner after it dried and I haven't noticed the tackines since.
