Interior rear quarter trim

I am attempting to remove the rear quarter trim panels on both sides. Problem is that the screws appear to be permanently bonded in place. I have managed to strip the head(phillips) out of one. I have used a very good quality screwdriver applying an unbelievable amount of torque and they just will not turn in either direction. I am afraid of stripping them all. Does anyone have any tricks or suggestions. Has anyone used that Craftsman tool that allegedly removes stripped fastners.

Scot, if you're refering to the screws that go up the sides, with the metal retainer....get the drill out.
The problem is the screws go into inserts in the trim panel, and they corrode something awfull. You may need to drill the screwheads off, and then replace the inserts in the panels. They do have a kit for this, but I'll have to look to see who carries it.
I ran into the same problem on my '74, but I was able to drill/tap the inserts, and epoxy them back in.

That's what I was afraid of. I ordered all new screws from Ecklers but did not see the inserts in the book. I only need to remove the panels because I am replacing the rear window surround and the weather stripping that seals the rear vertical part of the side windows. I guess none of this stuff is ever simple. Thanks again! You the man!
