For a 69 coupe, I have procured the new rear window glass and the rubber strip that's apparently supposed to be bedded between the glass and the extruded aluminum window frame.

A friend said not to use the rubber strip, but to just put a generous amount of 3M weather strip sealant in the glass channel of the aluminum frame.

Obviously, I'm not a glass install guy so what are the opinions from all you glass install people out there?

Iirc, the frame comes apart on the rear window. With it dis-assembled, you shouldn't really have any issues installing the seal(rubber strip) into the frame channel(s), and then carefully sliding the frame down over the glass. Doing this with it all warm will certainly help. If you do use any sealer on the thing, be sure to use a urethane sealer...a silicon type sealer will hold water, where urethane repels water.

Vette(s): 1973 Orange Metallic Coupe (orig owner), L82, 4 spd (WR), PS, (A/C & PW (I installed from wrecked 73)), leather, AM/FM Stereo, ran with '65 FI unit earlier & will again some day. 2023 Accelerate Yellow HTC Stingray

You could run it by a Safelite AutoGlass shop and ask them for a recommendation also.
