I would like to replace my original Distributor with new one. Should I go HEI, and if so who makes one with tach drive for 71 350/270?

Mid America sells a conversion distributor that is an HEI with the mechanical tach. The number is 604-059 and sells for $539.99. You can also use your distributor and put an electronic conversion inside. One is made by pertronix and sells for $89.99 from Mid America. The web site is www.madirect.com
Hope this helps

I was running a 50.000 V ACCEL coil with normal points without problems for years.
Last winter, when I rebuild the distributor, I installed the PERTRONIX 1 system that eliminates the point. I'm still running the same coil and all is fine so far.

Hey, Floyd
MSD Corvette Pro-Billet Tach Drive Dist is their PN 8572. I'm running one with an MSD 6 Box and Blaster 2 coil. Plenty of jolt, all the way to redline on my modified 350.
I'm not a big fan of blade switches, whether called "points" in our cars or "switch stacks" in the electromechanical gaming and amusement devices I've worked on for 25 years.

If you mean "Does it carry its coil on its back?" the answer is "no." It does not have an integral coil.
