is there any where under the hood where i can tap into ignition controlled 12 volt source with out going under the dash on 82? thank you.

Hello,
Try the IGN wire on the distributor. That is the only place I can think of. You might look in a Chilton repair manual at the wiring diagram for clarification or another choice.
