Hulk need help with mirror

You'll need to remove the mirror glass to fix them, but you can fix them. The glass is held in with 4 small dollops of a silicon/rubber sealant from the backside. You'll need to soak them in paint thinner, or mineral spirits to soften the silicon, so the glass will come out without breaking. Once the glass is out, you'll see a sheet metal strap across the ball of the mirror socket. This flat strap holds the tension on the ball/socket, to hold the mirror in place. The strap is peened to two standoffs on the mirror back. The peens loose holding power over time, and it just gets loose. You'll need to re-peen the two posts over the strap. Some have gone another route, and drilled into the posts, and inserted screws to hold the strap tight...either way works. If peening the posts, you need to be very careful to not hit them too hard, and damage/dent the front side of the mirror....I did that on one of mine once....

I think it's much easier, quicker and less aggravation just to replace them. Ask around if anybody has some used mirrors or purchase new.

Actually, that was a mirror that Mama "accidentally" knocked off the '74 one day.

I took some pics of it while it were broke, to show how to tighten up the tension on them. Luckily, I had another date coded glass to put in it.
Not sure the sillycone idea will hold for very long, but it's certainly worth a shot.

I have aftermarket mirrors on my '71 and have had both droop in the past. The first time I just bought a new one. Second time, I removed the glass like Joel said. Aftermarket are made a little different from stock..at least the ones I got. There is a strap over the ball with a nylon bushing between that splits over time and lets the mirror head loosen up. The strap is held on by screws, which is convenient. I bought a thicker bushing at Home Depot and replaced it. That sucker ain't never gonna move.
