Is your washer pump screwed into the bottom of your washer fluid bottle? (like the 80) If so, remove the filler tube from the washer fluid bottle, by unscrewing the tube where it is attached to the inside of the fender, then pulling it out. Then you need a long extension bar and a large deep socket (can't remember the right size, sorry! Around 19 or 20 mm i think) Look down inside the bottle and you'll see a plastic nut holding the pump in place. Unscrew this and the pump will drop out the bottom. Does the 79 have the side vents in the fender, or are they filled in on yours? If not, it's a lot easier to remove a vent so you can catch the pump when it falls, and it's much easier to put the new one back in!

On my 75, I removed the whole tank. There were only I believe 2 or 4 bolts holding it in. Once the tank was out, then the pump was easy to replace. I bought the new pump at autozone, as it's a common item on a lot of different cars, especially the GM line. I also checked the pump after installing it, and before I remounted the tank. My pump was bad when I changed it, but I also found a wire that was lose at the same time. Works like a champ now. |thumb|

It's a 7/8" deepwell socket with about 12" extension

Hope that helps!

Make sure you use the right size socket and a long enough extention. If you don't you will strip the plastic nut. Other than that it's a snap.

Jerome -

I see you're French. A Vette must be fairly uncommon in France. Does it attract a lot of attention?

Happy motoring, Doug

Thanks for your reply |saluteflag|

Riversidegold--> a corvette in France is uncommon and it's attract a lot of attention! but few people knows what is a corvette (they only knows the name) and they watch an uncommon car! so a corvette in France is less historical than in the USA
