So how do you remove the Horn Button on the steering column?  The piece that covers the Emblem piece.

I'm replacing my steering wheel and also wondering if there is anything important I need to know before I start this task, thanks.

I'm only slightly mechanically challenged

Well guess I should look through the forum before posting   I see Red82CE already asked this question. But still wondering if there are any concerns when replacing the wheel. cilrah38722.7729166667

I don't know if all years are the same or not, but my 69 just pulls off, doesn't turn, just pulls stright out.
Hope this helps.

The first thing I replaced on my Vette was the steering wheel.
As I recall, the horn button just snaps on, so you just pull it off.
You will need to disconnect the battery when putting it back on, or you might disturb the neighbors.

Yes, My '82 just snaps off with a good amount of force.  I forgot to disconnect the battery and I did disturb the neighbors...  Oppss....

Well I got the Horn Button off. Looks to me like it wouldn't hurt to replace all the contacts and everything under the button.

I've got a bran new Horn Button and Emblem but the contacts have a bit of rust on them.

Anyone know the best way to flaten the studs that hold the emblem and contact to the button.

The little studs are like soft lead with a hole in the center and will spread when flattened.  looks to me like a one time shot though, screw up and you need a new horn button

Well the new steering wheel is on, not too much trouble......... I've got a problem with the inner outeer ring  The outter ring thats under the horn button. Well it wasn't loose when I took it apart, now all the screws are in and the damn things won't tighten like is was before removing the wheel. Any ideas?
