Can someone help me read a trim plate showing "404 14L" ?

I guess the it means the original color was "Silver Mist", correct ?

How about the interior trim ?

Are you sure you are  looking at it correctly?

For a build date, the letter should precede 2 digits in the upper right corner. Paint is a 3 digit number also to the right and below the date code. The word paint should be just to the right of these numbers.

On the left you should see the word trim and 3 digits to indicate the color. The numbers you give are not consistent with 71 codes

I did however find your numbers for a 72. 404 is custom black leather and 14 is pewter silver.

I'm using "Corvette by the Numbers" as a reference.

Is the car a 1971 or 1974?

I assumed he was talking about the '71 in his sig. 74 numbers say 404 is black leather and 14 is silver metallic,

Daveb12,
He has another post about an engine number. In the text of that post he asked about a 1974. I also noticed the "71" by his identity. Either way it is not a Vette engine.

404 = Black leather
14L = Silver Mist Metallic(some EARLY '74s could have had the "914" paint code)
These nums are correct for the '74.
