How to get stickiness off headliner panels???

same thing on the 78 I just bought. The headliner was so sticky I could hang the rag from it. I used Bluemagic Leather & Vinyl Cleaner, purchased at Kmart for $2.00. I had to use several applications and scrub like hell, but the stickiness is gone and the color remained true.
