hey guys I finally started to mess with my horn today and when you plug the black relay in under the dash the horn immediatly goes off and after a minute or two the relay gets hot.. What should i check for to make it function properly

Do you have a telescoper or just a tilter?Sounds like the spring may have failed, or the spacers were left out, but it is definitely (most likely) behind the horn button itself. There are 3 screws holding the unit that the horn snaps into, with the three legs resting on spacers to keep it from contacting (grounding) and sounding the horn. If you don't have a shop manual, you can check here: Jim Shea article
I found this in one of our threads under steering. I never can make these durn things work.If you have a shop manual, it has a pretty good blow-up of the column. You'll need a steering wheel puller and hopefully won't have to go past the plate with all the notch's in it. If you do, that'll take some explaining, creative toolmaking and probably some skin and blood.
