During the winter months my '79 has to tough it out under a cover in an unheated garage.
I start it up and let it run for 20 minutes or so every other week.
This winter I have been noticing that the passenger side hood latch doesn't want to release very easily. It usually takes a few pulls on the hood release to finally let go.
Could this be caused by the cold weather?
Any suggestions on where to start?

Leave the hood up and push both latches closed by hand using a screw driver. Have someone slowly pull the release while you watch. As rraider1 said above, could be in need of some white grease.
If not, it could also be that the cable has stretched over time and it may need to be adjusted a bit. There is a paddle like piece of steel with several holes on the drivers side of the cable. You can change the location where the latch is mounted in this piece and that will shorten the overall pull to the pass side.

The cable looks good. No obvious wear, fraying or the like.
I'll apply some white grease to both latches and get back to you with the results.

Be glad that did it. I've gone thru 3 cables, including the factory one. The aftermarket ones are POS's.
Always a good idea to have figured out how to open the hood without the cable BEFORE you have to figure it out live...
