Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
What is this wire? What is the silver thing it is coming out of and where is the flat connector end supposed to go?
This picture was taken on the left wall of the drivers foot area (to the left of the fuse panel.). This is a 1979.

It looks like a condenser from an old contact point ignition and it doesn't belong there.

I'll agree it definitely looks like a condenser. Why anyone, or anything inside of the car would need it is anybody's guess.
On the other hand, it could be a capacitor, and there are several of them on Corvettes. They are used to limit electrical noise. Since the cars do not have metal bodies, Chevy had to install capacitors on some of the components, such as the wiper motor, and the blower motor.

Nothing like that in either of my 79s. That blue crimp connector ain't factory, anyway. Chuck it. Maybe long gone aftermarket radio remnants. Mike

Sorry...I didn't get to finnish my earlier post...Mama had a "Honey-do" fer me.
I was gonna say it don't look factory anyway, whatever the heck it is. It could be part of an old stereo, or even an old alarm set-up. I'm with Mike...chuck it.

I do have an aftermarket radio in there. I'm wondering if I pulled the flat end out of something when I was pulling fuses. How would I know if I need to plug it back in? And if I do need to plug it back in, how do I know where to plug it?

Does the radio work OK without any ignition interference?

That's also a really odd place for a radio condensor. If your radio is working ok and there is no noise (buzzing that stays in synch w/ engine RPMs), I would agree to chuck it and attribute it to a weight savings!!

It looks like the remnants of something Bubba's cousin said to install to make something run better. I doubt you need it. Normally factory installed stuff has a female spade terminal and they don't crimp a butt splice connector on at GM.
