HELP!!! ADVICE Needed!!!

When I bought my car the paint was not perfect but was fantastic for a car of it's age. and never any body damage that could be found. The resto shop rebuilding my tranny needed to move my car around the shop and while pushing the car, the "driver" cut too sharp and ran the driver door into the edge of the garage door and cracked the fiberglass deepley. He has agreed to fix it at no cost to me, but the paint will not be the same and stick out like a sore thumb. I'm simply asking "What would you do in a situation like this if this was your pride and joy? I've already thought of death, torture and a plethora of other things, but have settled down somewhat and need other like and kind advice!!

why can't you have him get the right paint to match and paint the whole door. I'd be mad too but if he is fixing it correctly and match the paint correctly, it should come out fine. it is a horror story for sure.

Have it done right by a good body shop and send him the bill. He probably has insurance to cover it anyway.

Yes, that is what I would do.  The whole vette should be painted no matter what he says.   Just doing the door by painting it and trying to match.  That door will always not match the other paint.

Exactly, if he can't paint the door to match correctly then get it done by someone who can and have his insurance cover it.

I've only had to leave my baby at a shop once since I've owned her and hated every minute I had to wait to get her back.

 First i would get some pictures of the damage and of the damage and where it hit the post... then I would make sure I found my own competent Fiberglass  bodyman to do the job, get an estimate from people you want and send him the bill, or notify your insurance co... this could wind up in court (then you have photos) as he may not want to pay to have it done to "your' satisfaction... if you agree to have him fix it and you are not happy... you will have to fight him and the body shop...  from the description it doesn't sound like a cheap fix?

I must agree with the others.  You need to find your own body shop and painter.  He is going to try to get the work done as cheaply as possible, with no concern for your concerns.

I also agree with your need to take pictures.  The more evidence you have from the start, the better off you'll be in the end.  It might also help to begin a log of conversations you have with the mechanic, along with dates, times and people spoken to, starting with the conversation regarding the damage and how it happened.

I would also look into placing an attorney on retainer, just in case.  As if this isn't ugly enough already, it could get uglier.

Sorry to hear about your woes.  There's just no other way to express it, but "this bites!"

Just a thought: with the diverse group of members we have here, maybe there's a member who's an attorney who could help, or at least recommend another lawyer in your area.

That sucks,it always comes down to no matter how much white glove loven you give your rides you can't protect it when someone else moves it. There are only certain people I allow to touch my car if it has to be move and they are not around the car sits till they get back or I go myself. I would agree with the others pictures pictures and more pictures, and take it to no one other then a Corvette body shop. If they can't match it then make them paint the whole car. 

With the new technology of computer color matching, I don't think you'll have any problems with matching the paint.

I agree with the guys that suggested having the door repaired by someone of YOUR choice. Even if the shop refuses to pay for the repair, your insurance should cover it. I had basically the same thing happen to me on my 66. I called my insurance company, (Grundy) was asked to send one estimate for repair and a week later I recieved a check. Yes, I did have to absorb the $50 deductible but what's $50 to make sure your car is repaired to your satisfaction by a professional. Bye the way, my car had it's original paint and was somewhat faded. The computer matched the paint perfectly.

I agree with someone who suggested that you document everything. As for retaining a lawyer, he might end up with the car, only leaving you with a cracked door.

OkoK, but , in Belgium.... my nieghbourhood had his ( racing ) Ducati bike at his dealer garage when 4 where stolen...one of his.So now he can't get a refund BECAUSE the 'burgerly' was made by intrusion by the roof and not by windows,doors,etc. covered by alarm AND insurance..... 

YES, so when i give my car to a garage i have to hope to see it again.... AHA, he's helped by the Ducati factory for purchasing a new at friendly price......
