Heat Barrier Kits Under Carpet

I am installing new carpet in my 68 convt. It has the jute padding in places. But what  I need is something to put down first that helps keep the heat out.  I have tried several  so called heat kits  under the old carpet but it hasn't helped much. The floor gets pretty hot, and I do have a heat shield over the header pipes and an insulation barrier on the underside of the floor.   What do I need to put down under the carpet for my heat problems. Maybe NASA Space Shuttle Heat Shield Tiles.      

I'm interested in what experiences people have had with various products as well

Did you like the Dyna Mat. Also I don't think the 81 gets as hot as the early C3.

I used a Heat Barrier/Underlayment kit from Volunteer Vette. Some kind of ceramic cloth with a foil backing.....$150.00. I also added some dense foil backed insulation that I picked up at home depot behind the seats and under the seats in places that it didn't effect the fit of the carpet. I just used spray adhesive and put it over the top of the kit. I also made sure I didn't have any little holes in the firewall and all my grommets were in place like around speedo and tack cables. It's pretty cool in there. No complaints from the wife about hot feet.

The 1/8" thick high density kits really make a difference.  Dyna-Mat is about the best, but you then need to cut and fit.  The old style thicker kits make the carpet look funny.

I just finished working on my 74 for hot feet! Mine would get that hot after about an hour that I couldnt stand to drive in. I purchased a product called Lizard Skin from Summit Racing. I removed the interior and sprayed it on with a special gun they sell. I dont think a regular gun would work. Anyway I made my first drive to Carlisle Sunday morning since completing this and there was no heat at all. I actually had to turn the heat on, on the way there because it was just in the mid 50's when i left. I am very happy with this. I also finished off the job by putting a layer of the home depot bubble foil wrap on top between the coating and carpet. It works great. If you decide to go that way let me know and you can borrow the gun I bought. However I will be spraying the 72 sometime in September as well.

Thanks, I will look up the lizzard skin. Thanks for the offer. I think I only have a two to three week window to get something, while the interior is disassembled. I have used the bubble wrap with foil before and it did not work for me.  Also the foil wrapped jute which didn't help all that much. I am talking TEXAS HEAT.  100 degress plus and that isn't on the asphalt.

You have to cut your own patterns with Dyna Mat.  It  would be nice to have it already formed and cut to fit in all the areas.
