Headlight problem

Why do my headlights pop up between 110-115 mph? Any ideas?? Thanks, Dwain

Are the leading edges of the lights higher than the rest of the front end ? Could be if they are,they are catching air and at that speed there is enough pressure to force them up. Just a thought.

No, they're pretty much lined up. Is there something I'm missing maybe below the bumper inside that keeps the wind from blowing up on them?

Mine usually dont pop up on there own until I reach 200 mph!

sounds like your headlight door springs are weak or missing. Could also be a weak vacuum issue.

Also, do you have headlight shields installed?

I had this problem in my last 69 vette, it would up being a slight vacuum leak that wasnt bad enough to affect anything itself until the throttle was nearly wide open..

dont remember which component... I replaced just about all of them at one time or another..

remember... vacuum pumps are your friend..

if you cant find an individual component that fails at normal vacuum levels.. run a vacuum line inside the car

it easy to get a piece of 3/16 brake through one of the grommets that already come through the firewall.. attach a hose to this metal line going to either a splitter off of your intake vacuum... or a non-ported vacuum port on your carb..

then on the inside of the car attach a vacuum gage to the other end of the line..

the drive the car at the speeds you have a problem and see what your vacuum is.. then test which of your components fails at that vacuum level.

At that speed the engine manifold vacuum drops due to throttle position. Low source vacuum combined with vacuum leak or leaking check valve, the lights come up. Ben does have one solution, but if you find the leak that will fix it as well. Not always easy to do.
You need to use a Mighty Vac hand pump to track it down.
