long story short I had to take motor out and do stuff and put it back in. So, taking longer than expected to get motor done. Problem now is the temperature guage and tach are not working.

The whole guage cluster wasnt working yesterday and I found the ground wire that was not hooked up and the oil temp, oil pressure and fuel guage came back to life, but the tack and temp guage not so lively.

I did replace both temp sensors and moved them to the heads, but that shouldn't matter. There is a "cylinder" about an inch long that is inline with the tach. I do not know what it is or if it can go bad. I tried bypassing it and tach still didnt work.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed, was all of that stuff working before you pulled the engine back out? If so, then there must still be something not connected, or not connected properly. Make sure the ground wire that goes to the bellhousing down by the starter is actually on a bellhousing bolt. That is one of the cluster grounds, iirc.
Does the tach not move at all, or is it acting goofy?
Temp gauge should be fairly easy....disconnect the wire on the driver side head and ground it(the wire). Key on, the temp gauge should peg HOT. If it doesn't peg the gauge, there has to be a problem in the wiring between the sensor and the gauge, or a problem with the gauge itself, since the other gauges in the cluster are now working.

Joel,

Seems I was wrong about the fuel guage working. It shows 1/2 tank and ran out of gas on test drive. Tested the oil guage pressure guage against a manual guage and it works fine. The oil temp guage pegs to 300 when key is off then back to 0 when key is on. Temp guage not moving at all. Will do grounding test and get back to you. All the guages were working fine before I started this fiasco.
