try disconnecting the battery terminals and cleaning them. even though you didn't d/c them could be enough corrosion to give you a problem. had a gm truck that wouldn't start and thought it was the starter but taking the easy way out i cleaned the terminals and the truck started right up. didn't look that bad to me but sometimes can be touchy. good luck

Just a follow up. I have not had time to do a thorough search but have looked at the battery terminals and frame grounds. I have not found anything suspicious. The fuel indicator sometimes reads correctly, then the next time it reads past full. When I can get the car in the air, I will try to find the other grounds mentioned. These little things drive me nuts. Thanks for all of your replies.

Found the problem today. Both wires on top of the tank were loose. It's pretty tough to get in there even with the gas door and the rubber piece removed. Anyhow, I cleaned and tightened the connectors. Put it back together and the fuel gauge now reads correctly. Thanks to all for the advise. That's what makes this place great.

Job well done Scott. Now come help me find out what's causing the fuse to my instrument panel lights to keep blowing.
