Anyone have any tips for getting the lock/barrel seperated from the glovebox door on my 80? I've noticed the whole thing's starting to work loose, making closing the door really awkward. I've had a quick look at it, but it's not immediately obvious how it comes away. If I can get it off, I'll be able to see if part of it's broken, or if it's just a loose circlip or something......
This is probably (hopefully) the sort of thing that someone with the GM workshop manual might be able to tell me, I bet it's a question of sticking a little screwdriver in somewhere to release a clip or something, but it'd be nice to have a plan before i go wading in to it!
Cheers!

OK, Looks like i'm gonna answer this one myself!
Seems a lot of people have looked at this post, but I'm surprised to get no answers as yet. You guys must all have well behaved gloveboxes!

I've sorted it now, and if anyone has the same problem, then have a look at http://personal.riverusers.com/~mcphelps/glovebox.htm

There's quite a bit of info if you search on http://www.corvetteforum.com under "glove box".

One piece of advice - its a lot easier if you open the door, snap the latch shut and then lock it with the key. (As per step 8 in the first link above) You can get access to the tumblers much better this way.....

Sorry, didn't mean to make the old folks feel left out!
A glove box is the part of your dash where you stick parking tickets, cigarettes, CDs and general crap that you get sick of your passengers treading on. |laugh|

You older-car owners have more of a glovebag, although i expect the contents are much the same...

Dukman, you must be pretty ancient by now |biggrin|
But don't worry, unlike our cars, things don't start dropping off us after only a few years....
I haven't developed any annoying squeaks or rattles yet either - and I walked into work in the rain this morning, and I haven't started leaking |laugh|

But we still love 'em!

|cheers|
