Vette(s): 1971 convertible,375 HP 350ci,Muncie 4-speed,Edelbrock aluminum heads and RPM air-gap manifold,HEI distrubiter - old school mechanical tach drive. LOUD side exhaust!
It's been a while since I replaced mine (ok, installed it since it was missing). It's on the engine bay side. If I remember, getting the spring into the hole on the pedal shaft was a pain - or maybe it was the end on the firewall. Not too hard, just need a little patience. I'd post the picture from the AIM book but all my stuff is packed up in storage right now.

Your right John, it did take a little patience. Purchased a new spring, it was a little tricky to hold the pedal and the spring and at the same time slide the pin in back of the pedal to hold it all together.Big smile
