Fuel gauge always at 4/10's, where is the sender wire?

Can it be reached from inside the cabin under the hatch floor? It's an '82 CE. I want to disconnect and then ground the wire to see if the gauge is bad before removing the sender.

I think you'll need to remove the fuel door, and then the rubber boot around the filler neck, to get to the sender wire. Not really sure on the CE....perhaps someone else has been there, and can fill us in.
