When I removed my front wheels, I noticed that the shields were falling off. See picture.

I suspect that the purpose of these is to keep road spray out of the engine area. Do they serve any other purpose? (Go easy Joel).

It appears that they are rivetted on. If I replace them, can new ones be attached by some other means?

They are intended to help keep out debris. Since the control arms go up and down, there has to be clearance between them and the car body, so these rubber flaps do the job quite well.

You get replacement from most any of the restoration houses...Corvette Central, Corvette America, Eckler's and so on. They're pretty reasonably priced.

Not sure if replacements come with rivets or whatever other means of attaching them. I know other makes use metal or plastic snap-in clips to hold them in...these may be the same way. You could probably buy such clips from Pep Boys, NAPA, Auto Zone, etc., if the shields don't come supplied with any.

The shields come with the plastic retainers, or you can re-use yours, if they are still there.

MAM pt #602-168 $16.99

They are there to keep the dirt/water out of the engine compartment, when splashed up by the tires.
