Vette(s): 1978 vette with an 80-82 stlye rear end molded in. BW six speed & an L82... for now. Lowered with VBP springs and bilsteins. Polished torq thrust wheels. New paint, audio system, aluminum radiator... Flowmaster and extreme flow exhaust components.
I've been day dreaming again! Not good... whenever I do that I end up spending too much money! I was wondering if it would be possible to cut the license plate mounting area and the fangs on either side of it off of the front bumper. What's behind there? Any metal that I would have to chew through? If there is something there, can I safely cut it out? After I have a completely open nose, I would mold it in to the rest of the body and make a custom billet grile to cover the open nose area. Let me know what this would involve and how you think it would look |idea| Thanks for any help or any opinions. -Adam

Behind it you'll find a kind of honey comb configuration of the same plastic/urethane the bumper is made of. any metal reinforcement won't be much more than sheet metal. I don't think the license plate area has metal though.

I have also looked closely at what is behind the bumper. It depends on how "open" you want you could just shave down the rubber bumperetts behind the urethane cover and unbolt the licence mounting plate then make the billit grill. That would look sweet. I was considering going further in order to put a functional air duct for increased air flow for cooling a intercooler. you would lose any collision absorbsion ability but if you unbolted every thing forward of the two frame rails you can get alot of room up there. But I am looking for an alternative so that I do still get some crash protection. Probably going extra fans.

The only "crash " protection you get with the rubber bumper is the 5 mph mandated by the gov't. Not much when you think about it.
I think Kerry voted for it, or was he against it? |laugh|
