My 69 needs the smog pump cleaned up along with the 3 gold finish items; the wiper can, the vacuum valve on the drivers side and the master brake lid. Has anyone ever had good luck with just cleaning the smog pump or what gray paint do you recommend. The cadmium colored items need painted but I'm not sure the wiper can is the same color as the the brake lid and vacuum valve. Any help is appreciated.

Fun,

The Smog Pump is usually natural aluminum, bot the end plate is painted semi-gloss black.  You should be able to cklean it up with a soft brass wire wheel attached to a drill.

As for the gold items, Eastwood (www.eastwoodco.com) makes a spray kit with a gold base coat w/ reg & green highlights.  They come out nice & clean looking but the finish does not match the original plating.

There should be a shop near you that can re-plate the parts if you disassemble them.  However, the correct parts are avaialble through most major parts houses with the correct finish.

Thanks for the reply Anthony. ZIP Corvette is here in town and I may replace them with new and I will look into replating the wiper can. With an NCRS car I need to maintain the original look and original part if it is numbered. Bob

Bob,

The wiper can has the date ink stamped on the side.  It looks like the ink & pad rubber stamps used in an office.

From what I've seen, it can easily be recreated.  I'm sure that someone in the NCRS community can point you in the right direction.

Good luck,

Anthony

Bob Demmel can restore the headlight actuators, and the wiper actuators, with the correct plating, and ink stamps!

He just happens to be a friend of mine, as well as a NCRS judge.
