Electronic Gauges Failure

I was driving my '75 recently on a hot day when the tach, the temp gauge, the oil pressure guage, and the power windows quit working. No muss, no fuss, they just stopped. The car seemed to run fine.

Later that day I started it and all the gauges, etc., worked. After about 20 minutes of Interstate driving, they quit again. After about another 20 minutes, but at slower speeds (caught in a rush-hour backup) the gauges came back on with a buzz from the "Fasten Seat Belts" warning light.

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be failing?

I'm not much of an expert on electrical 'gremlins', but on the surface it sounds like you have either a ground or connection problem. If it is a conection problem, unplugging and then replugging connections is sometimes all that is needed. If it is a grounding issue you'll need to chase down all the grounding points, undo them, clean them of any corrosion, put them back together and then retest. It wouldn't hurt to pull the negative cable off the battery before playing with things too much. You wouldn't want to inadvertently zap yourself or some other component or circuit.

As far as tagging on an image to a post or your signature, click on the Help link near the top of the page and then drill into the 'Adding a Photo to Your Forum Signature' entry (or just click here). Please be kind to those of us who access the internet via dialup modems and limit you signature image to a maximum width of 400 pixels. And if you need to put multiple images in a post, please put a signature sized image (sometimes refered to as a 'thumbnail') in the body of the post with an embedded, or external, link to the larger image. BIG images really slow down page loading when connected via a modem. Thanks!

I would check the main battery feed coming from the starter to the horn relay block and the alternator. From there I would trace it to the fuse block under the dash.
