I don't think my electric fan is working properly on my 79 C3 L82 Vette. When I hook it up to a 12 volt battery it spins very fast. When I just turn on the accessory switch it turns much slower. If the engine is hot and I turn off the ignition the electric fan does not run. Shouldn't the fan keep running until the engine cools to below say 200 degrees?
any help would be appreciated.

The electric auxiliary fan doesn't kick on until the coolant reaches a screaming 238 degrees. That is what the factory fan switch located on the passenger side cylinder head is set at.
I know Mid America Motorworks makes a coolant fan switch that comes on at 200 degrees and shuts off around 185 for '80-'82 Corvette's. It may work with your '79. I would see why it wouldn't.
