Greetings earthlings,
It has a been a while since I have been on here.  I was at a car show (with my '78) this past Saturday and someone told me that I had no brake lights...YIKES!  The only thing that I have done is to look at the fuse box.  It bites getting older....can't get head close enough for reading glasses, but to far away to see small print.....arrrrrgggghhhhh.  Are the brake lights on a certain fuse?  I guess if not the fuse, then probably the switch on the brake pedal?  Probably original for both.
Still da Viking

You could be correct..either the fuse or the switch.  Or...both tail light bulbs could be burned out.

So are the brake lights on a separate fuse?  If so, do you know which one?

I can't say for sure on a '78, but my '69 has a separate 20 amp fuse for the brake/hazard light circuit.  I would think the '78 wouldn't be any different.

If the brake and hazards are on the same fuse (as they should be....duh) I bet those teeny, tiny white letters will read 'HAZ' or 'HAZARD' and not brakes.  Thanks for that tip.

Try activating your hazard lights...if they work properly then you know both the fuse and bulbs are ok.  Then you know it's the brake light switch.  If they don't work, then it still could be a fuse or bad bulbs.

Your owners manual should have a diagram of the fuse block.
