DS headlight stay up

OK, here it is.  See mcspeed.com and then click on "Killer Lights".  The system uses firebird light door motors and a headlight module.  I used one from a C5 which I bought on ebay.  What you get from mcspeed is two brackets and very detailed instructions, which are also listed on that website.  The hardest part about the conversion is finding the headlight motors with lifting arms and the headlight module.  You must also get the wire ends from the Chevrolet dealer  for the module.  It eliminates all of the vacuum for the headlights without destroying anything.  You do have to cut out the bottom of the headlight supports but even the NCRS experts would have a hard time finding what you did if you ever wanted to put the vacuum system back.  I would never do that because my electric ones work great.

One more thing, you must change the headlight switch; I used one from a C4.

When you get around to changing all of the vacuum lines, don't forget about the ones behind the a/c control head.  They have also been there a long time and have probably been visited by more than one mouse; all you need for big trouble is one good vacuum leak.

I wonder why one light opened and closed with the override switch pulled down.  Something ain't right.  They should have both stayed open just as if you took both lines off of the light switch.

Glad to here you got it figured out. I never thought of the override switch.

But like OH6A said, something ain't right. both should stay open. Unless the override switch was pulled (engine not running) the system didn't have enough vacuum to pull both.

tonyb47, is right. There is only one way to hook 'em up. I looked at a schematic. Bad me.

i have a 77 vette, i had the same problem but with both headlights, i replaced the vacuum relays and things are fine. if you want while you are waiting for correct repair, with hood up, reach behind the headlight and pull the spring and your headlight should release and come down. good luck, gene
