All of a sudden, my driver's seatback is stuck.
When I try to fold it forward, it acts like it is locked.
What is causing this and how do I fix it?

Vette(s): 1982 Black over red, doing a resto.

The hinges have a floating weight in them incase you hit something, Like a tree! Take the covers off and blow out the dirt and fuzz. I sprayed mine with a cleaner/lube and worked the weight with a small screw driver. Works good now!

Hope that helps,

Denny

If it happenned all of a sudden and you have shoulder belts that attach to the seat back what sometimes happens and if you just let the seat back flop back what happens is the seat back hits the stops and bounces back, when it jerks back it sometimes locks the shoulder belt, try pushing back the seat back push the release and try pulling the back forward.

on 82 models the seatbelt don't attach to the seat back.

Correct, the shoulder belt is not connected to the seatback.
It did happen all of a sudden. I think it was when I was doing all of those panic stops during the last autocross.
Maybe if I do about 40MPH in reverse and stomp on the brakes it will free it up.

To get the acorn nuts off, I had to loosen the screws first, while holding a 3/8" nut driver on the acorns.
A small right-angle ratchet with a Phillips bit is the best way to loosen the screws.

Do you think WD40 would be good or will it tend to collect the dust and make the ball stick again?

Gosh I learn something every day.... (never knew that the 78-82's had weights in the hinge area...)

ANYWAY... oh about 7-8 years ago someone was selling an backrest
adjustment mechanism for the seatbacks on these cars to allow you to
change the angle of the back.....DOES anyone know if this is still available and where I can get them?

The seats on my 72 & 76 have the normal adjustment points and work fine...unfortunately I run with a short piece of a  3/4 inch  thick pine
stuck between the seatback and the seat bottom on my 79 to get
the angle I like... not much of a problem but a little tacky.. lol

Bob,
Bite the bullet and get '82 seats with power on the driver's side. It is a six-way adjustment. Very comfortable, especially on a trip.

Success!!!
I accidently removed the lower seat cushion from the plastic frame. I could then easily get at the screws that hold the hinge to the plastic frame.
I freed up the counterweight, lubed it, put it all back together. Back to normal again.

Here is a link to my website with pics. fix the seat
Sorry the pictures are poor. It was a bright day in the driveway today.
