The door mounted rearview mirrors on my '79 are stock, from the factory.
They are the type which are bullet shaped and contain the mirror glass in the bullet shaped enclosure.

The driver's door mirror enclosure is loose. It sits atop a post which mounts to the driver's door. The mirror glass is still firmly in place. The post is still firmly in place.
Is there an accessable nut or bolt that I can reach to tighten the mirror enclosure down on to the post?

as it so happens i have one off in the shop now and will try to get a picture of the screws that tighten it ( if the fasteners are not completely off the back ...go have a drink and ask the barmade to include a little plastic sword the color of your car it will take up the slack until you fix it) when you see how hard it is to get to the fasteners you might want to stock up on plastic swords.

Hey Howard,
Thanks for the reply!
I'll take a look at the photo of the screws when you can post it. No rush, though.
If I have to remove the door glass or other crazy stuff, I just may go with Bubba and the plastic swords. Heck, I'll be ready for Betty Ford by summers end!

Kevin, to access the two Phillips screws that hold the mirror and top housing, you must remove the entire post from the door. Once you have the mirror assy off of the door you'll see the two blue phillips screws way deep down the hollow housing. I'm sure, that's not what you wanted to hear........sorry.

Hey "440",
Do I have to remove the door glass to get to the mirror post?
(Maybe I'll just go back to the bar!)

[/QUOTE] Kevin, how do you feel after the bar??? Anyhow, it's easier if the glass is out.........but with the glass just lowered, you should be able to access the two nuts that hold the mirror housing and rubber gasket............lots of fun!corvette440hp

I'll definitely give that a try.
I'm thinkin' a new gasket(s) will look good when I'm done.

P.S. I guess I'll stay away from the bar.
