Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79

I took my driver's door panel off the other day in hopes of tightening the side-view mirror which is REALLY loose.   I couldn't quite figure out how to get to the bolts holding the mirror to the door.  I now have two questions:

1) Can I get to the bolts for the mirror without removing the glass?  If so, how?

2) There is a plastic liner between the door panel and the door that I had to take off to get to adjustment screws, etc.  Is this a stock part?  If so, what is it called and where can I get it?

Ok, that's really four questions.

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

My 79 manual says to remove the lower glass stops and lower the window as far as it will go. Also to remove the glass anti rattle cushions. You should retain the plastic as it keeps moisture off the back side of the door panel. Maybe try making one out of heavy plastic sheet?    Mike

Yes, plastic liner is stock item. Mine was held to the door frame by a continuous bead of sticky stiff which remains soft and sticky. No idea what it is! The plastic liner appears to be just simple clear plastic cut to shape, a few gauges heavier than your average supermarket shopping bag of course, but not so much so that it is becoming rigid at all, with some stratgeic holes for screws, mirror remotes, lock rods etc to go through.

The sticky stuff I used to put mine back is called "strip caulk" and made by 3M... got it off the net... comes in 12" strips and about 1/4" thick/wide.. works good for sealing windshields headers too as it does not harden...

You can get the mosture barrier liners from most of the catalogs.I had to replace my pass side power window motor so I ordered a pair for $19.00.Came with all the holes just like factory. These are important and need to be there.Cheap insurance.
