Is there a special tool to remove the door lock knobs on  a '73?

I guess i can get that with a screwdriver? I have power windows.. so no window crank. I guess it is the old "U" shaped clip that fits in the groove of the shaft?

It is the u-shaped snap ring, and it does fit in the groove of the shaft and slot of the knob.  The removal tool makes it easy.  Using a screwdriver would be almost impossible.  However a small pick with a hook or works.  Or you can  just out about a 1/8 90 degree bend on the end of a coat hanger, and snag the clip and pull it out very easily.

OK... got it ... can't get behind it with a screwdriver, and really have to catch it and pull it out...

Thanks... I'll try this weekend with your coat hanger suggestion...

The coat hanger worked like a charm Ken... and definitely had to be 1/8" ... no problem.. took the panels off and eliminated the door rattles... mostly linkage hitting metal  parts. I put some rubber pieces around them. Lubricated all the tracks and moving parts. Sounds a lot better now. Also aligned the window a little better...

Thanks for the help...
