 So... how do I get the current one out with that "special tool" that I have?

Because I believe the one that is in there is weak. The door really doesn't like to stay open by itself.

Oh. The springs have a little notch in them that you have to release by bending the spring like you were installing it, and tapping the spring down. Joe
