I guess this is a two part ?what does that piece do,And where can I buy a new one?The only catalog I have right now is Mid Amercia and I don't see one in there.Mine is plastic (82)I would like to find a chrome one.My 82 CE was sold new by Berger Chevy.I was going through all my paper work that came with the car and There is a decal that I guess would go in the engine area.It says by Berger,Grand Rapids Mi.and something else. There was also a metal tag from the dealership. You know just every one does.It says by Berger thats it.I'm just guessing that Berger didn't put it on the car because it looks like it requires two screws,I don't have the screws.Anyway Thanks for looking at my thread.

There is a plastic, chrome piece that fits over the factory ign. shield for the later cars. It does help put a little shiny stuff in there. I can't remember who has it, but I can look.(Riks, maybe?)

The shielding is supposed to help with RF interference in the radio, and I suppose the plastic might do that, but I gots my doubts. I'm sure it's more for cosmetic reasons on the HEI cars than anything.

There's a tin foil lining in the plastic shield. Personally I think those add on "chrome" covers for the shield look tacky.

I would be happy that the dealer never put any dealer decals or plaques on the back of my car. Looking for a new car a few years ago I refused to go to a certain dealer by me cause they attached plaques to the trunk lid of all their vehicles right away. Rivited on! Bought from a dealer that just used license plate frames. Threw them away only to find em back in place when I went back to pick up the car after a remote starter installation!  Mike

try to find a corvette salvage yard around your part of the country.  That is more than likely your best option.

[/QUOTE] I was very happy that they didn't put them on.I found out that those by Berger emplems are going for some good$$$ on e-bay.I guess they changed the plaques to a bigger and thicker and slightly bigger version.I got this info from a Vette owner at work.He told me he used to live not to far from the dealership. He said back in the day they got some of those 427 69 Camaros.I thought the info was interesting. He told me that they campained one of those 427 monsters.I guess the dealership has quite a reputation and history. They are still in business.

Zgator, If you cant find the distributor cover anywhere else, try Mike Boyles corvette Center in Archdale NC 336-434-5001.  They have lots of used "stuff" like that.  Ive rummaged through their inventory at the big autofair at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte before and found "stuff" nobody eles seemed  to have and their prices were very reasonable.  I have one of their flyers here and they specifically list "shields" in their engine compartment category.

If you want to change to the chrome cover here is the main shield on Ebay. You would still need the wire loom covers if you choose to cover them as well out of the box.
