This link will give you most of what you need to know.

You will have to remove one or maybe both of the window pillar mouldings to get the dash out. To get it out, you will have  to bend it a bit, so do it on a warm day. You may be able to replace the speakers just by lossening everything up and putting a block of wood between dash and other trim panels so you can get your hands in around speakers.

I've been doing this to connect up my speaker wiring. Good Luck

Here is an even better set of instructions; I was looking also as I'm going to go in there to connect my speaker wires today.

Vette(s): 1973 coupe. LS4, M-21, DARK SADDLE LEATHER, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, POWER WINDOWS, A/C, AM/FM STEREO, YELLOW ( 952 ).

If you follow the willcoxcorvette instructions you will have no problems replacing speakers. your dash pad comes out pretty easy once you've removed the pillars. Now the left side dash panel is a different story.....................
