Just a guess...but the different color sockets could be nothing more than to identify the original vendor, even though they all fit the same. The assembler on the assembly line didn't care what color sockets as long as they fit...he just reached in a bin and grabbed a handful.
Those sockets are available at Pep Boys, Advance Auto and Auto Zone as well.
