I was wondering if someone could confirm that a swap of a non-tilt column to a tilt column in a 1971 4 speed vette has no hidden surprises. I have the Haynes repair manual and it seems straight forward. Bottom line is are they interchangeable ?? Thanks

Thanks Ken
I forgot to mention that the column has no steering wheel. Can I pull mine and swap it with no modifications ? Any advise on how to test the tilt/tele mechanisms to check wear and play given that it will not be in a car and has no steering wheel ?

Avoid using a '76 column as a replacement. They are a unique 'freak of nature'!

It's difficult to check all functions with out the leverage of the steering wheel, but it can be done. The spring in the tilt section are fairly stout. Just see if everything operates without any play. If so, you are in good shape.
I think any vette steering wheel will work, but you may need to change a few other components along with it. Not entirely sure about this one. How about guys?

Thanks for the answer Ken. I do not know what the forums would do without your constant vigilance. I think I may pass on the column given the lack of the matching wheel.
