carpet???

any of you out there replaced your carpet??? i have a 74 with medium saddle cutpile, who is the best, where can i get it, and should i get the sound deadener, or heat backing??? thanks

I replaced the front carpets myself (back carpet was still OK). The carpets ordered from one of the parts catalogs were already cut and pre-formed. All I had to do was remove the seats, seat belts, kick panels, and loosen the console. It's easily a one-day project.

I can't advise about the sound deadener or heat shield. They are not necessary with a small block.

Al Knoch is supposed to be the best. I have ACC, it's OK but their customer service is a bit lacking.

Actually, I just installed double sided heat insulation a couple months ago. Convertibles don't seem to have a problem with heat, but coupes do. Small block or big block. On my 75, the heat was unbearible, even after installing a manual shutoff valve in the water line. I was going to replace my carpets when I had all the interior out (and wish I had), but to keep cost down, I used a commercial cleaner on my carpets and pressure washed them. They acually turned out pretty nice, as they weren't worn, but just needed a good cleaning. If you want to install the heat shield insulation, let me know, as I ordered too much and have 1 box left over. I can make you a great deal on it. You can order the precut heat insulation, but I ordered it by rolls and cut them myself, by using the carpets out of the car as templates, and used contact glue recommeded by the manufacture of the insulation. Very easy process. The insulation not only works well for heat, but also sound. I have some pictures that I can post on my website or here if you would like.

hello, i'd definitely be interested in your box of insulation, is it for sound and heat??? I'd also need some of the glue you were talking about. Let me know how much you want for it. For the people out there that bought new carpet, where did you get it??, and how much??

I bought my carpet several years ago. Could have been from Mid America but was probably Ecklers. You can also look at Corvette America.

bought mine from Willcox Chevy, 800-588-3883, on a recommendation from Bob in a thread posted 9/10/03 to "interior pieces". price was $198.00 for my 79. can't tell you much more. haven't seen it because I sent it to the shop that is repairing my car after an accident.

My heat was unbearable also. Installed Dynamat Extreme and the difference was night and day.

It is for sound also. I installed my insulation for mainly heat, and it made a TON of difference. I also layed the insulation under my console, and behind the seats, since I had everything out already. Very easy to cut. I went with the double sided shield, but you can get the single sided also. Believe it or not, I actually cleaned my carpets at the car wash, using the wheel cleaner selection. I have a niece that works at a used car dealership and they use a commerical grade wheel cleaner to clean the carpets and seats. After they dry, they look almost like new. If the carpets are worn, or torn, it will not help, but if they stained or faded, or just really dirty, this will clean them right up. IF they are weathered, they might come apart from the pressure of the water, but if you are planning on replacing them anyway, you might give this cleaning a try. You will be out less than 5 dollars.

my carpet is torn, and bill, let me know how much you want for that insulation, sounds like it would be a great idea for my much too warm big block. Anybody know whether any of the carpet is ncrs approved, or i think that's the right letters???
