I'm in the process of restoring a 70 coupe. I am trying to reduce weight where sensible. Mine is a small block but the car has big hood (still can see 427 in the paint where the old letters were).
I am interested in buying a light hood, maybe even carbon fiber. Does anyone know of a manufatcurer/supplier of aftermarket hoods?
Thanks,
Gordy

Most of the Vette parts places have body parts in their catalogs. Ekler's used to carry some more exotic stuff, don't know if they still do or not. You might check with one of the tuner outfits like Doug Rippe (sp?) Motorsports to see if they have any connections to light-weight body parts suppliers.

How much weight can you really save by changing hoods? Going from metal to glass I can understand, but I've had my hood off and it for it's size it weighs very little.

I don't think my hood weighs much more than 10 pounds if that much.

There's no one making carbon fiber hoods for C3, the weight savings for fibre class would be more than 70%. The fabrication process is the hard and the most expencive part. It takes big vacuum owen to build CF parts. I just ordered carbon fibre 1/2 shafts for my 79.
