Be sure to get the valves for both sides and make sure you get the correct size valve for the hoses. You should have 5/8 and 3/4, but perhaps not. Doesn't hurt to check to see if you have two different size hoses.

Was changing out my heater hoses this weekend and discovered that my water diverter valve that alows / denies water to circulate to the heater core was not working correctly. While dealing with this problem I decided to install manual valves as mentioned in this thread. I found both the 5/8 and the 3/4 valves at NAPA. Total price for both was $42 but if it will cut the heat down in my car this summer, it will be well worth it. The valve designs should allow full flow to the core when they are opened.
Part numbers for the valves are 3/4 inch 660-1413 5/8 inch 660-1414

The stock valve on the car only closes when you turn the A/C on. Just in case anyone did not know that.

this is a followup question. when I had the right dash panel off yesterday, the heat cable to the heater door has an adjustment. I started twisting on it to see what would happen, Its actually and adjustment for the heater door. Now, where this connects on the heater there is a Button that it comes back on. and pushes when the cable pulls to closed. what is it and what does it do? velly velly curious.

Years ago, I had a leaking heater core on my 76 Grand Prix, so I used a U-shaped piece of aluminum tubing and simply bypassed the core. No water went to it, so it didn't get hot, and the water that tried to go to it kept flowing back to the system. Do you suppose this could work for a Vette with unwanted heat issues?
By the way, how the he!! do I get to the heater hoses?! Are they inside that A/C box referenced in the thread that JimG linked in?

When I pulled the passenger side of the dash and saw the amount of corrosion on the vent/heater valves, I just bypassed my heater at the water pump. I'll start buying parts to do the entire corkpit and wont hook the heater up again until then.

The "button" is probably the compressor switch, for the A/C compressor.
