Vette(s): 1981 - 59 Beige over Cinnebar leather. Edlebrock top end, 2200 stall w/shift kit, 3:55s, Mufflex maniback exhaust, nice stereo, 16 in AREs w/BFGs
My co-pilots seat developed a small tear on the seat bottom seam about 3/4in long. No biggie, id like to keep it a no biggie.  The interior is 100% orig and near mint.  Is there anyway to fix it or stop it from spreading?

Heh Kev. Once I had a small tear in  a Tahoe leather seat on the side. It was actually a hard spot in the dang cow hide and it cracked or tore.
Well I tried that "As seen on TV" leather seat repair. It worked pretty well and this was in one of those fold as you sit areas. You mix it up and then use an attachment that hooks to a soldering gun. It melts it flat and then you use a piece of leather grain design overlay to melt the real look in.
The hardest part I had was getting the color match correct as in was the buckskin color.
I'll look around as I think I still might have the kit, if so I'll mail it out to you if ya want.

Ditto.  Ebo is right (did I say that?)  It's one of the few "as seen on tv's" I've seen work as advertised.

I tried one of the DIY kits on my old interior when I first got my vette, it worked "OK" but not as good as I wanted.  Most dealerships have a guy who does their repairs like that, usually a traveling contractor that brings his truck by once or twice a week.  It may be worth your time to check that out and see what they would charge to fix it professionally.

Excellent, I didnt know there were guys that did that.  I'll look into it..

In the worst case, You can have just that one panel replaced on the seat by an upholsterer. Did it on my 69 SS Chevelle. $60 as opopsed to buying an entire front set of covers for $500...

I agree. Just pop the cushion out and pretty much any auto upholstery shop should be able to resew the seam.
I had that main seam between the vinyl and leather that always seperates resewn and reinforced for $50. That included removing the cover from the foam and putting it back. Undetectable.

I'm assuming it's the bottom cushion.
Fold the back forward and push your fingers down between the rear of the seat bottom cushion and the plastic shell. You'll see 2 spring clips pointing either up(easy!) or down(hard....)and retaining a heavy gauge wire.
If up put the seat back up again and insert your fingers back in between the cushion and the plastic shell. Pull up and when it unclips gently roll the cushion forward.
If clips are down, push down on the wires retained by the clips til they unhook, a screwdriver helps. Put the back up again and grab the cushion as above and roll it out.
Putting the cushion back in you either push the wire under the clips with the screwdriver if down or simply use the screwdriver to push the wire back into the clips if they face up.
One of my 79s has upward facing clips, the other, a very late production, has downward facing clips. Don't know if there's any reason for the difference, tho.
