bonding strips

I would like someone to explain a little better the bonding strip process.  I am removing the front clip from my car as I have a donor clip.  Do the bonding strips need to be replaced, I have a hard time telling what is and what isn't strip, I am amazed at the lousy job of bonding panels together especially the firewall, its just gobbed on which is where I'm having the difficulty.  Should this be ground off and replaced, I do not see strips for sell for the C3's but see them for the 60 models.  What is used to glue them together with.  Its for sure that i will do a little practicing before I attempt anything big.
