Here's one for purists! I hope to put my body back on the frame this weekend
I know the General used tape to hold the mounts and shims in place when they put the body on. I've seen cars "gigged" at shows for having the "wrong tape", I know this borders on the ridiculous, but..............................
Does anyone have a clue what tape was used? There were remnants of tape on mine when I took it off, it just looked like good old masking tape to me.

Actually the tape used in the original assembly was 1 1/2 in. masking tape, Frost King makes a masking tape that will pass all inspector scrutiny although it is truly 1.40 in. wide

Removing the body is not as difficult as it seems. A Competent do it your selfer can certainly do it. If you've never done it before, I strongly recommend reading a restoration manual before you even start though. I took mine off last fall (not my first frame off) we had the body off in an hour. As a side note though, the 2 people I had helping me had done it before too. If your car has any degree of rust, it makes the job more difficult, I had to cut 2 of the mount bolts out, they were too rusted to take out any other way. Ground straps, brake cables, seat belt connections, etc. You need to know what is hooked where.
I think it's worth the effort if you are wanting to do a good job. I'm very happy with mine so far.

Not that He is stupid. I did pulled my body off last summer by myself and had my brother help me drop it back on 4 weeks later. Neither of us had done anything like that before even though we are both OK mechanics. More info can be found on my web page as to what it takes.Brian - NCM Lifetime Member
