hi boys and girls!
yesterday was really hot (91 degrees). i had to take the car out to a place 25 miles or so away and it was all highway driving. 60 mph average. the motor didnt overheat or anything but i shut the car off and after about 2 minutes i went to fire it up again and it didnt fire fight away.
it cranked about 3 seconds and as i gave it some gas it backfired hard and shut off. i tried it again...same thing...hard backfire and off. i waited about 10 seconds and it fired up but ran poorly for a few minutes. after that...it was fine. i came home on the same highway and temperatures and shut it off and refired it. no problem.
any ideas? bad coil?
thanks!

Same thing for me this weekend. Mine has HEI, so I changed the ignition module first and that did not help. I put a new coil on and it fired right up. Coils are pretty cheap so I would give it a try.

It's a good posibility. The dist pickup and module are also strong suspects when you have electronic ignition. Without electronics, a condenser can do the same thing, but the coil is a greater suspect.
