Vette(s): Coupe 74 - 454 Drive it like you stole it!
Jim,

good timing, cause I just installed an FM modulator yesterday in my Explorer. This is the one I installed.  This is the one you should go for if you have an external audio device (cd player or mp3 player like an iPod). This is what they use for satellite radio and high end systems like DVD video/audio.

I don't think the one you talked about works at all; I tried 2 wireless ones in the past, and not only the sound was very weak, but you could hear the engine noise really loud as you hit the accelerator.

This one (the FM modulator) has 2 major things : antenna bypass (with a on/off switch that you need to mount somewhere) and a noise reducer.  It sounds very good; almost CD.  It will never be as good as a direct connect with AUX, but this is by far the best you will get for under 50$ without changing the deck.

If you do have an mp3 player and you want to install it in your Vette without major modification, the only thing you will have to do, is find a 12 volts (lighter) plug you are ready to tap into.  The other cables are a ground, antenna bypass, audio cable and fm switch.  The fm switch and audio cable will come out from under the dash and everything else is hidden in the back.

If you don't have an MP3 player and still want to try one like the one you found, try to find it at WalMart or somewhere where they have a full money refund policy on electronics if you don't like it.

Regards,
